Battle Caporetto

- battle in World War I (24 October - 1 December 1917) between the Italian army and German troops and th e Austro-Hungarian. The battle took place in the region Caporetto (now Kobarid) - a city in Slovenia on the river Soca (Isonzo inc l). In the course of the river Isonzo battles of the Austro-Hungarian army suffered considerable losses. The German high command, fearing a collapse of an ally, decided to support the planned offensive by the Austrians. The main striking force was to be a 14th Army General Otto von Below, the aim was to stop the entry of the Italian Army in the vicinity of 2 Caporetto.
